A Career in Music
Denise Marsa is an American singer, songwriter, music producer, entrepreneur, and founder of KeyMedia Group. She is known for her music career, as well as her work in public relations and music production. Marsa began her music career as the female lead voice on the #3 UK chart topping duet "Lucky Stars" with Dean Friedman. She was a featured performer on the UK tour, where she appeared on various TV shows and radio interviews. Originally her name was left off the record, however after dozens of letters were sent to the label from fans, demanding she be credited, she was.
She also worked as the lead vocalist in the mid-80s on the dance track "Helpless (You Took My Love)" by The Flirts which peaked at #11 on the International Billboard Dance Charts. Soon after Marsa signed her first contract as a songwriter with Warner Bros. UK and lived there writing and recording with performances scattered throughout her time there.
While living in London Marsa signed with Savage Records, owned and operated by a then young and inexperienced music entrepreneur, David Mimran, the son of Jean Claude Mimran, a French businessman and billionaire known as the “Sugar King of Africa.” After recording several songs that were scheduled to be released by the label, Mimran and Marsa found themselves at crossroads, with the direction of her career, and Marsa had the opportunity and chose to not continue their association.
After several years in London, Marsa moved back to the states and within 6 months she signed her second songwriting deal with Warner/Chappell and moved to Los Angeles. There she wrote and recorded several demos.
Marsa experienced setbacks with both deals - her sponsors left the companies in the middle of her contract - consequently she decided to create her own indie record label, KeyMedia Group, in 1998. She self-produced and released her debut album, SELF, which received critical acclaim. She also started her band, The Mother Band playing some of the most iconic clubs, including The Roxy, The El Rey Theater and The Troubadour.
In 2008, Marsa founded KeyMedia Public Relations. As the owner of both KeyMedia Group (the record label) and KeyMedia Public Relations, Marsa has led the company in offering creative, strategic, and advisory services to clients in arts and entertainment. Over the years, the company has helped indie artists, musicians, photographers, authors, and other entertainment professionals gain exposure and grow their careers.
In 2018 Marsa premiered her one woman show THE PASS in London at The Playground Theatre, to warm reviews and audience accolades. In 2021 THE PASS was a part of the NYC United Solo Festival where it won, Best Concert. Marsa put the show together to help others navigate their experiences in a life of entertainment.
Since 2020 Marsa has focused on her own career in regard to her record label and starting with the release of her 4th album PIVOTAL in 2024 has been experiencing a renewed interest in her work from both fans and music industry professionals. Her album PIVOTAL garnered 6 top 10 UK Music Week Commercial Pop Dance hits and the first two singles from her forthcoming album RISK + HEAL has produced two top ten hits.
